The Café Morso Breakfast – Eggs (poached, fried or scrambled) with toast, bacon, mushrooms, roast tomato, chorizo sausage, $18.00
No doubt, the big breakfast is always for the greedy one. We decided to order the Morso Breakfast to test out how good a restaurant can be by using its own name as a dish. First impression – was good because portion was generous, chorizo are cooked nicely with smoky flavour from the char grill with a crispy skin. The hero of the dish was the scrambled egg, it was cooked perfectly and texture was smooth like silk. As you can see from the picture the middle is still a little bit wobbly.
Potato, dill and Spanish onion pancake with house cured salmon, watercress, lemon crème fraiche and fried egg, $16.50
I ordered the Spanish onion pancake because it is unique and something I do not find easily in other café. The dish wasn’t as good as expected because every element on the plate was rather cold. I am not a big fan of chewy rice cake and the pancake tasted exactly like one. (Initially I thought the pancake would taste something like a fritters) The egg however, was nice and runny. Towards the end of finishing my breakfast, it tasted grossly salty. I think it was because of that big pinch of salt sitting on top of the pancake (as you can see in the picture) which I did not noticed and mixed well…
Free range eggs; scrambled with crusty toast and butter, baked beans with onion and relish, $12.00
This was more of a “build your own” breakfast, my friend ordered the scrambled egg with adds on bake beans and relish. The egg again, was the hero, the relish was light and refreshing but the baked bean was nothing special, probably one of the can baked bean.
Conclusion: The café could become very full if you don’t book. We didn’t book that day and was given a time limit. The food was okay but not the best. This place only open for breakfast and lunch so no doubt their business are doing well enough to generate profit without opening for dinner. To summarise: Stylish breakfast menu, courteous staff and great location.
