Balmain is one of the classy and relax suburb in Sydney. It is a middle class area surrounded by cafes and dogs!! You would not see a street without dog owner walking with their dogs. After a long day walking it was a relief to be able to kick back with some nice food and watch the world goes by.

Eye Fillet Steak Sandwich – with caramalised onion, lettuce, tomato & fries, $15
Sometimes I appreciate the idea of randomly picking a restaurant, no friend’s referral, no food blogs researching, purely going in for the sake of the menu and the guts feelings. Which woman doesn’t like surprise? (It’s just matter of good or bad one). After about 15 mins of wait, here comes the food. The steak sandwich was a bit cold. Steak was chewy and slightly overcooked. For those who know me well, I am a sauce queen, I usually love anything that is saucy and almost any kind of sauce I’d love to eat. But this sandwich has loads of sauce that almost flooded my steak… and the acidity of the BBQ sauce overpowered the steak too. But what I love is the Turkish bread. It goes well with the steak.
Triple Decker Club Sandwich – Chicken, bacon, egg, tomato, lettuce & fries, $15
The Triple Decker Blub Sandwich was presented beautifully like a castle with fries in the middle and sandwich neatly pile up on the side. It has all the standard fillings of a club sandwich. I think this was by far the best dish out of all.
Berliner Burger – homemade beef, lettuce, tomato, bacon, caramalised onion, mayo & BBQ sauce, $15
As the name implies, this is a signature burger of the café. I didn’t get a chance to taste this burger but my friend finished in like 10 mins. So it should be a good one.
Homemade pie of the day –Bolognese pie with chips & garden salad, $15
I liked the idea of combining a pie with a pasta sauce. But the finish product wasn’t as good as it might have seemed. The pastry was burnt on the top and the mince beef inside was dry and lumpy. Café Berlin would have to try harder next time.
Conclusion: Café Berlin offers fantastic service and very homemade style foods. The extensive menu gives you an option from all day breakfast, pie, quiche, pasta, sandwich to cakes, muffins, coffee…the list goes on. My overall experience in Café Berlin was so so. I am not 100% satisfied with the foods we ordered. But yet, the café was packed and most of the people had ordered breakfast instead. But knowing I will be dropping by to Adriano Zumbo for some dessert which is just around the corner, I was a happy girl again! Yay!!

a shame you had a so so experience, but i love trying out new cafes just because as well .. its just hard to do it often because there are so many places i haven’t been to with great recommendations that i’m dying to try!!
